Mission accomplished!

They’ve just left school but on Wednesday 2nd August, four friends from North Devon (and four small bears) took on the adventure of a lifetime for Families in Grief!

Noah Dutton with friends Jono Williams, Jed Haines and Ed Broggio set themselves the daunting challenge to scale Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – the three tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales – in just 24 hours.

And, despite dreadful weather conditions, the team completed their 3 Peaks Challenge in the amazing time of 22 hours, 44 minutes and 55 seconds!

We are so proud of the lads and what they have achieved.  The initial reason for supporting FiG was that Noah sadly lost his 18 year-old cousin in a shock accident last year. Noah says: “After this I felt first-hand the grief and bereavement that many other families have to go through. We would like to help families like mine and FIG is the local charity who can provide support and care for them. ”

You can still support the lads by visiting their online giving page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/8994w-3-peak-challenge.

You can also donate via text: Simply text CLIMB followed by your donation amount to 70470 to give that amount. Texts will cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate message. For example, if you want to donate £5 all you have to do is text CLIMB 5 to 70470.

They weren’t on their own! Four small bears were also tucked into their rucksacks and braved the mountains with them.

The bears are a reminder that everyone needs a friend (furry or human) when you are feeling sad. And that support is there for you when someone you love dies.

Part of a large ‘family’ of ‘teddy bears for loving care’ donated by the Masonic Charitable Foundation, the lads set a challenge for all the primary schools across North Devon/Torridge to give each of the four bears a name. Many primary schools took part with the winning names being chosen by the team on completion of the challenge.

The winning names were suggested by Year 5 of Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School in Barnstaple. They have won not just the four intrepid Teds featured above but enough bears for everyone in the class.  Plus a Dryrobe voucher.  Congratulations and see you in September!
