Largest ever Ilfracombe Round Table donation

Thanks to the incredible support given to Ilfracombe Round Table’s inaugural Beer Fest this year, the charity has been able to give their largest ever donation to FiG and our work supporting bereaved families.

An amazing £10,000 was presented this week to the main beneficiary of the event, Families in Grief (FiG). FiG CEO, Naomi Jefferies, said it will make a huge difference to local families at a very vulnerable time. “We were left truly speechless by the amount donated from Ilfracombe Round Table’s Beer Fest. This will go a long way, meaning around 15 families will be able to benefit from the full package of care that FiG provides. This will help them process the death of a loved one with counselling, activities, group support and much more.”

The £10,000 donation is the largest ever made by Ilfracombe Round Table, explained current Chairman Tom Martin-Jeffery: “It was truly overwhelming to see how popular our first ever Beer Fest was. It was a great boost for the town, but most importantly it allowed us to make the biggest single donation we’ve ever made, to the charity we’d unanimously chosen as our main beneficiary.  Families in Grief came to our business meeting earlier this year, to talk about the vital work they do with young people at the most difficult time. As a group of guys with young families ourselves, this hit home. We wanted to do everything we could to help.”

Ilfracombe Round Table’s inaugural Beer Fest took place on The Landmark green over the Whitsun bank holiday weekend. Crowds flocked to the unique giant tipis staging the festival all weekend, to enjoy live music with a huge range of local ales and ciders. Such was the success of the event, organisers had to scramble across Devon throughout the weekend, seeking out more beer to satisfy the thirsty customers!

“We never expected anything like it,” said Tom. “From the first afternoon, we knew we would need to pull in lots of favours from breweries and pubs across the county. We’re so grateful to all those who helped keep us stocked up to meet the overwhelming demand. If it wasn’t for them, we’d have sold out on day two of the four-day festival! We estimate over 7,000 pints were drunk that weekend, double what we had expected. But that incredible support means that even more local families will be looked after during a bereavement, by the wonderful team from Families in Grief. As a group, we could not be more proud.”

Naomi from FiG added, “We saw first-hand all the hard work and organisation it took from the guys at Ilfracombe Round Table to make this possible. We are all so grateful and want to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for this incredible donation. It will improve so many lives at a local level, meaning that grieving families with young children don’t have to face it alone.”

Ilfracombe Round Table plan to run Beer Fest again, from 24th – 27th May 2024. Anyone interested in sponsoring the event should contact the charity via
