Families in Grief has been named as the main beneficiary of the upcoming Ilfracombe Beer Fest, held on the Landmark green from 26th to 29th May. Organisers, Ilfracombe Round Table, hope to raise thousands over the bank holiday weekend to help local families through the trauma of a bereavement.
Event organiser Matt Child, from Ilfracombe Round Table, said it was a pleasure to choose such a worthwhile cause. “We are here to help those in our community who need it most, and who might otherwise have nowhere to turn for support. So, by supporting Families in Grief, we hope to help those who may be feeling alone or isolated right now, like they have no-one to talk to. Families in Grief is a fantastic local charity and with the support of our community, we can help them provide more help to families and children going through very tough times.”
He added, “As a group of young guys, many with young families, this issue is close to our hearts. So we are more than happy to give our time to try and raise as much as possible.”
Ilfracombe Beer Fest will take place in huge twin tipi tents, located right on the town’s picturesque sea front, as the green outside The Landmark Theatre will become a hive of activity for all ages. Featuring more than 50 of the region’s best beers and ciders, the festival will also boast live music, fresh local street food, and even an undercover fire pit. The event is in partnership with The Landmark’s operators, Selladoor, who will provide even more food and drink options plus children’s entertainment within their famous twin towers. Now, festival-goers will also be assured that every pint purchased will make a real difference in their community too.
“This is going to be a huge occasion for all of North Devon.” Added Matt. “It’s a pleasure to put on an event which we expect thousands of locals and visitors alike to enjoy over the bank holiday weekend. But we also need support from our business community to make this possible, so if anyone out there would like to sponsor a barrel for as little as £80, it means more money will be raised for Families in Grief. Please get in touch if you’d like to get involved.”
Tracey Elliott, Chair of Trustees for Families in Grief, said: “We’re very grateful to Ilfracombe Round Table for choosing to support Families in Grief. We are a small local charity, but we have a vital service to deliver to the people of North Devon, who turn to us during the toughest of times. None of us know when grief will strike, and it can be especially hard to cope with when families are young or when a bereavement is sudden. We help by bringing together these bereaved families to help them to overcome the sense of isolation grief can bring. The services we provide are free – however, we can only do this with support from the likes of Ilfracombe Round Table. We hope all of North Devon rallies around the Ilfracombe Beer Fest, because it really will make a difference to the families we support.”
