Change a life today!

Are you passionate about helping children, young people and their parents/carers who have experienced the death of someone close to them? Then you are in the right place! We are now looking for new Family Support Volunteers and Fundraising Volunteers to join our FiG Family.

Family Support Volunteers

Due to increased demand, we are looking for new volunteers to help with our group support work.

We offer support through our Children’s and Teens in Grief groups, both of which usually run over six weekly sessions in Barnstaple or Bideford. The sessions take place after school and last for an hour and a half. The children are given arts and craft activities as well as physical activities to explore their feelings about their bereavement while the parents/carers of the young people have their own support group in a room nearby.

This approach provides a safe space for the whole family to share their experience of grief. In so doing they can draw strength from one another and begin to overcome the sense of isolation bereavement can bring.

We provide full training and ongoing support for all our volunteers which usually takes 6 x 2 hour sessions plus one whole day. All applicants will also be subject to a full DBS Check and need to be aged over 18.

We would love to hear from you if you are:

    • a great listener and communicator who has experience of working with, or interacting with,  children and young people.
    • friendly, compassionate and want to make an amazing difference to others’ lives.
    • able to volunteer three hours a week in the evening in Bideford or Barnstaple over a six week period – the duration of one of our support groups.  We usually ask volunteers to commit to help with a minimum of one group a year.
    • resilient with a good sense of humour (it really does help!)
    • keen to develop new skills, challenge yourself and make new friends along the way!

Sound like you? If so, please download the Family Group Support Volunteer application form and return by email to [email protected]

Fundraising Volunteers

We’re also on the lookout for confident and enthusiastic volunteers to help us at community events and fly the flag for FiG! And we’re always interested in hearing new ideas for how to raise vital funds – so if you like the sound of becoming part of a small, fun team and get involved on an ad hoc basis, please download the Fundraising Volunteer application form and return by email to [email protected].

If you need any more details before applying for either volunteer role, please contact us by emailing [email protected] or call 01237 479027 (Mon-Fri).
